SEO content strategy guide

Content creation looks easy right? Until you sit in front of a keyboard and watch the cursor blinking at you. Creating content is very time consuming and requires research, discipline, and motivation. Your SEO content strategy should encompass how you can deliver new, engaging content to your audience. While also placing aside time and effort to improving existing content as well.

Let’s Talk Terms

Using related LSI terms in your content improves the likelihood of your pages getting found. LSI stands for Latent Semantic Indexing. It’s a big fancy SEO term, but it’s really simple to see practiced. LSI keywords are words or phrases that are semantically related to each other. For example, if optimizing for Coffee use words like mug, cup, and so on. Be sure to sprinkle these in your content to help rank better. A simple way to see how this can work is to do a search on Google. The related or suggested words that the autocomplete will give you are LSI keywords.

Title Tags

Title tags are the the title of your posts or pages. In the search engine results page (SERP) you can see these at the top. You can use numbers in title tags or phrases that are not click bait. These are called modifiers. For a great example just look at paid ads in the SERP. Think about it, if those get clicked then organic terms and numbers will too. This helps CTR which equals higher ranking. Paid ads are a great way to discover keywords.

Believe it or not, but most of your search engine traffic comes from very long, very specific searches. Some of great title tag modifiers are the current year, best, review, free shipping, and checklist.

So how do I create a content strategy?

If you look at ads and Google your search term, look at the bottom of the page. Google places related terms at the bottom. Those are potential topics for content. Most users are not using mobile devices to find information. So when researching content in your industry look at the bottom of the SERP. Phrases like “how to…” and others are good for content when providing information and crafting a SEO content strategy.

Interlinking and layer your content

Orphaned content is a post or page that doesn’t have a internal link to another related post or page on your website. Interlinking your pages and posts are good for readers and the search engine to continue finding content on your website.

External links should always include one to a verified website. Preferably one you would appreciate a backlink from. You read previous articles on a strategy on how to best do that.

Optimize and update existing content

Prioritized content by difficulty of the topic. Therefore, you can start repurposing and even add to existing content as long as it’s relevant to it and provides use to readers. Using the Google console you can find the top 10 pages you are ranking for, then skip to 11 thru 15 for page two. Focus on optimizing those pages for your keyword and improve your existing content.

Google Trends and Google AI

Google trends allows you to look up terms and see how many stories are out there on a topic or term. If it’s a story or topic in your industry and create new engaging content around that. Using Google trends you can search by state or market city.

Rankbrain was released years ago, but essentially after it came out SEO experts have been guessing at what it is. Today the best guesses suggest that it’s Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool to look at web pages and judge content quality on user experience with content. This is quite possibly one of the highest ranking factors for websites out there. After all the happier your users are the higher you’ll rank thanks to CTR.

Remember when I said it requires time and effort. That’s the biggest thing you have to figure out how to set aside. It takes time to develop content, and then constantly monitor what content is working and what is not. Combining SEO and content marketing is essential for a successful business strategy to reach online customers.
