Marketing Your WordPress Website

Marketing Your WordPress Website

WordPress is much more than just a quick way to get a website. It is an engine that can carry your business forward through the 21st century. Your marketing team needs a tool to publish that’s easy, quick and flexible. Here we want to share how to marketing your WordPress website.

Over the years WordPress has been looked at as a CMS that is great to blog on. But most discount it’s abilities to do more. How content and data is displayed and used can be achieved if you know what you are doing. Just because you hired a development team doesn’t mean they know how to develop on WordPress.

Inbound software inclusion

There’s a lot out there for marketing your WordPress website. I prefer a solution that works with WordPress and doesn’t work against it or cause you to work inside of their system exclusively.

HubSpot has been on the market for a lon time. However it’s exclusive with what CMS you can use with it. Mostly theirs.

Acton is a good supliment but can be as costly or as clunky as I used it briefly before going to what I knew until a replacement could be found.

Mailchimp is the most common I see on a budget. With almost the same functionality as marketing software, but exclusive for email marketing, it’s a good choice. And works smoothly with WordPress.

Active Campaign is my number one choice. As marketing software goes I am thoroughly impressed. Like Mailchimp prices are on a sliding scale based on your number of contacts. With a CRM and over 20 triggers, it’s hard to not give this one a look. As far as integration into WordPress goes, it’s seamless and doesn’t interrupt your publishing flow at all. After creating your forms in Active Campaign it’s easy to drop in a shortcode from the TinyMCE editor.

The quick embed of shortcodes is something HubSpot did that we liked then ceased and broke all the pages and posts we had previously added their shortcodes too for forms. With Active Campaign it looks like they are learning from HubSpots mistakes and not taking the same path.

Social media inclusion

There are a lot of ways to integrate social media, and a lot of different meanings. Simply adding share or like buttons is not integration. Working with the social platforms API with WordPress’ API is. It’s a lot of work depending on the situation but worth looking at if you want to take advantage of Facebook’s Instant Articles feature, auto-publish posts to Facebook from WordPress and more.

Google Analytics and WordPress

Analytics inclusion

Not just pasting Google Analytics code in the footer please. Or adding tags to a site that doesn’t have a cart or clear goal amount for each conversion. Analytics is required on every site. Google wants you to have theirs for on site SEO and verification. But after that use what you want. There are paid versions of Google Analytics, but a more cost effective solution does exist. It just depends on your needs.

Heatmaps and Recordings

Have you ever wondered what your site visitors are clicking on? Or how far down the page they scroll to? Or what area on your webpage they linger at? Maybe you would like to watch your visitors as they use your site. Or get a better idea at what markets they are visiting from down to the county. Well, this is the stuff that helps you target and save money and effort. It’s also helpful for your design team to not spend hours (which is money) on a site design feature that no one clicks or uses.

Search Engine Optimization

Mandatory for all websites. If you are using a site from another online party because you saw their ad on TV or online, you likely aren’t optimized. You content needs to be optimized as well. Talking with marketing people I’m amazed at how they correct technical writers copy, instead of working with them to add necessary phases (notice I didn’t simply use “keywords”) to the copy. Also watch the image filenames and add the proper ALT tags. To go the extra mile consider Captions and TITLE tags.

Search Engine Marketing

This is not SEO, it’s also more than paid advertising with AdWords. This is an animal that lets you see your competition and better judge your Budget and Spend. Please note, that budget and spend are different. Also, don’t forget social in this. Over 80% of our traffic comes from social, blogs, and offers online as well as geofence ads and behavior targeting ads.
