With the new year finally here, and having already shared our thoughts about web design trends for 2016, here’s a list of what we can look for to dominate in SEO trends 2016.
1) Video over Text
Video will over take other mediums in terms of return on investment (ROI) in 2016. With infographics, images and copy being the other mediums and having been used for the last 5 years, video is the next phase in getting and keeping traffic for a site that serves up regular content for inbound marketing.
2) Mobile over Desktop
For the last 5 years everyone has been beating the drum constantly about “go mobile or die” and with Google now in the game with mobilegeddon, it’s only going to progress more.
Statistics show that more users are now searching from their phones and tablets for services and information than from a desktop machine.
If your website is not responsive or mobile ready, you can bet 2016 will be the year your business has no choice but to pay the cost for a new site and marketing strategy to stay competitive.
3) Digital Assistants Will Change Search
In terms of how people search digital assistants are on the rise, personally I love Cortana over Siri, but prefer my iPhone. I’m conflicted, I know, but I used to play Halo.
People are not typing their queries in a box anymore, on mobile devices it’s much easier to just “ask.”
This is transforming and adding another layer to search that complicates things. Now queries move past a few keywords and into spoken word, therefore, content will have to be sharper and professionally done with digital assistances in mind.
4) Opinion-editorial, and Tutorial Content
With so many sites now aggregating content and spewing it out in mass, it’s likely to see more refined content that is more interesting being ranked better.
Tutorials offer a free resource that teach users how to become content creators as well. With Twitter already experimenting with Moments in it’s app unfolding news stories into a single channel for people to see, it’s starting to point toward more focused and refined content.
5) Social Content
If you perform a search, you’ll now find Twitter results in the search results. With deals on the table between Google, Facebook and Twitter you’ll find that social posts matter even more.
