WP Minute Tutorial Series – Locked Out of WordPress

Have you gotten your password correct and have seen an error message? The message telling you that you have three attempts remaining. If you still haven’t successfully gotten your password or username correct then you are locked out. This can last anywhere up to twenty minutes. Now you are locked out of WordPress.

Why does this happen?

Your website uses the plugin “Limit Login Attempts” to stop bots from a brute force attack. This happens when the username and password are incorrect. I highly recommend you go down to the bottom of the login form and recover your password before you are locked out. Then come back and try to login again. Otherwise, you’ll have to contact us so that we can clear out the log and try to get it straightened out. You can reach us at Element502.com.

It’s not time to panic as frustrating as it is. If this feature was turned off you would be open to a brute force attack that could break into your website. A brute force attack is a trial-and-error method used to obtain information such as a user password.
