How to Get Your WordPress Site Indexed By Google

Getting desirable ranking positions on Google is one of the most important things business owners want. But site owners may forget the details it takes to get there. Here are some tips on how to get your WordPress site indexed by Google.

1) Get A Good Web Host

Web hosting companies are too numerous to mention here, but the majority sell “shared” hosting accounts. This is fine for a small business starting out, but not if you’re planning on marketing and increasing your visitors.

Speed

It’s been blogged about many times before by thousands of sites that provide SEO, Marketing and Web services. But here it is, if you site is slow. No one will care to wait while it loads. Thus, you’ve lost that visit forever.

Accessibility

No service can guarantee 100% uptime, but get about 99.9% at least. If you are on shared hosting you’ve probably already experienced have the white screen of death. If you haven’t you will when you site gets popular.

Security

If your site is hacked, then the trust level is lost. It can be recovered, but at a great cost in time and money. It’s best to be safe than sorry. We know managed WordPress hosting is most costly than shared hosting, but like car insurance, is it worth the risk not having it?

2) Disable “Discourage Search Engines” In WordPress

One of the most possibly overlooked things in WordPress. Go to “Settings” >> Reading and uncheck the box as show above.

This allows the bots the search engines to crawl your site. Without this, you’re chances of getting anywhere on Google, Bing and Yahoo! are zero to none.

3) Manually Share Your Site

Sitting around and waiting for someone to find your site doesn’t work. If you are on Facebook, Twitter or other social network, proudly share your site and ask your friends to do so too. Just beware to not look desperate, too much “asking” and it could backfire.

4) Sign Up For WebMaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is a free resource to track the performance of your site. But it’s more than that. It confirms to Google you are real and trustworthy. Having a Webmaster Tools account allows an edge over your competition if they don’t.

Register for Google Webmaster Tools.

Register for Bing Webmaster Tools.

5) Manually Submit Your Site For Crawl

Speaking of edge, this one is a must when you get a site up and running or a redesign. Google also allows you to manually submit your site to the search engine once you have verified the above mentioned. That’s a pretty significant edge.
