Often we are asked what we do for our services in making a quality website for people, and we can’t answer, “test, test and retest and test some more…”
Building a website is not a matter of just taking a pen and paper out and sketching out some things. It has to involve what happens after that. We have to think about what layouts actually work to convert leads.
Then we have to sit and say, “what colors are pleasing to visitors?”
Making A Quality Website
There are some elements of some sites that just make websites look untrustworthy. Misplaced calls to actions (CTA) that are bright yellows and reds with shadows or outdated graphics make a site look like it’s a spam site just trying to capture and steal information.
We want to build a site that people go to see the service clearly, understand product clearly, and then trust you to contact you.
Many website designers don’t do this. Freelancers may be interested in doing work that is quality, but it’s really hard for them to pull together all the resources needed, and do everything well. Without a team you can’t ensure quality because only one set of eyes is looking over the product before gets to the customer.
Simply put, things can get missed or overlooked.
It’s not just a design you’re paying for
Website customers don’t realize they’re not just paying for some artist to throw together a layout with their brands colors and logo.
It takes the mindset to understand how far apart to space elements (white space) and what typography, that is fonts, work best to be readable as text on the page.
Moreover here at Element 502 we focus on search engine optimization (SEO) as well all of our sites that are built. Our mindset is that our customers are trying to get their services found when people search for them on Google.
We bake into every WordPress theme the ability, and the tools, to do this and maintain this, over a long period of time. Not just for the next year, but the next five years, or whenever Google makes another algorithm change.
Quality over Quantity
While there are many firms out there that offer web design services, prices are competitive. However one has to understand that the more money you spend the better the product will be. Template services are not interested in quality. They’re more interested in quantity as that is how they make money. We bake into our themes only what is necessary so that you get the best product and it’s the best quality that your money has bought.
Think of it like buying a car. If you just want a daily commuter then you’re not going to pay as much for it as you would the luxury vehicle. It’s a matter of comfort as you drive to and from your destinations versus just getting something to drive. With all the concerns about fuel economy, we would hope to help you understand that what is most important is the function not just the price.
Code
That thing that isn’t talked about because most customers don’t understand. Quality of your code that your site is built with is of the utmost importance not just from a search engine standpoint but from a standpoint of maintainability.
I have inherited sites from other people who had a designer do the work and now the site was not maintainable and I was tasked with fixing this problem so that they can update their site and it’s software to avoid security risks.
And many times I would have to deliver the bad news that the CodeBase was so bad that I could not fix this without breaking several other things and spending several days putting out fires because one change affected another place in the site causing it to break further.
Quality of the code avoids these problems and makes the site future proof so that you don’t have to constantly fight updating or upgrading to the next version of WordPress or a plugin. If you’re on a WordPress platform, which is an online web application, then your site should always have the ability to be updated at any time there is a new release of WordPress. There should be zero conflicts with your theme or plug-ins if they are chosen wisely.
It is not a limit of WordPress, it is a limit of the developer that didn’t take the time to do it correctly if things are not working as they should. Many times I hear when things don’t work like they should that it is a limit of WordPress. When in fact it is just a limit of the understanding of how to use the product, or the product was not created to standard.
It’s an investment and doesn’t cost as much as you think
A website is like your home, it’s your investment and it is what people see first of you online. A website represents you and your company, if it’s bad, then your services are not going to be taken as seriously as the next guy who is a competitor.
You only get one first impression and it is only for brief second. There is no luxury of second chances in this market anymore. So if you’re considering a website please feel free to contact us we would love to get you online and have the best possible look to really make your company and brand shine.
