Shipping with WordPress version 4.7 is the new default theme, Twenty Seventeen. And it looks amazing so far by the way. I personally cannot wait to get my hands on it and start making custom themes with it. I’ve been making custom WordPress themes out of default ones since I could build a theme, it started with Twenty Ten, Twenty Eleven, Twenty Twelve, and now Twenty Sixteen (Element 502 is built on it).
Designed by Mel Choyce (@melchoyce), Twenty Seventeen sports a modern look and will make a good base for any business website or product showcase.
One particular feature at the top of the list is expanding custom header images to include video (think: atmospheric video headers!). Right now my personal themes accommodate this, it’s just my time and skill to add in a custom theme. But to have this in a theme ready to use will be neat to test out.
Technical stuff is during development the theme will not use preprocessors like LESS or SASS, not an issue for me as I’ve yet to find someone like myself proficient in them, so just CSS will do. Like the TRAC says, it keeps things simple that way. That’s talking my language when on a team.
Unfortunately, and I say that with tongue in cheek, it’s not compatible to versions of WordPress prior to 4.3 or 4.4. But no theme should. Typically with time software gets old, hackers get more creative, and the web evolves and so on. So, please update your version of WordPress to keep it secure if you’re hosting on a “shared” server. If you don’t know what that is, or your version is out of date and would like me to take a look, let me know in the comments below.
